A Maharashtrian Feast @ Suryawanshi

My frequent visits to Bombay have made me not only familiar with but also love the Maharashtrian food. The Kolhapuri cusine, vada pav, misal pav, sabudana kichdi, sabudana vada & the list goes on. You are simply spoilt for choices when it comes to Maharashtrian food.

Sadly in Bangalore, the popular joints serving Vada pav is a far cry from the authentic taste of one of my favorite fast food.

However, my visit to Suryawanshi in Whitefield changed my notion about Maharashtrian food in Bangalore. Suryawanshi is situated in the 2nd floor, above the popular joint egg factory.

What We Ordered:

  • Vada Pav (Not 1, not 2, but 6 :))
  • Solo Fish Thali
  • Chicken Malvani
  • Fish Curry
  • Sabudana Vada
  • Shrikhand

My Experience:
This place is very simple & perhaps the charm lies in its very simplicity. It only has the best food to offer. The menu offers veg & non veg thalis & a whole lot of fast food options.
The staff was very courteous & suggested the right food to suit our taste buds. The thali was good and filling. The fish was perfectly made with the amazing kolhapuri flavors & spices. The currys were spicy and well cooked. The Srikhand was alright but i wish they had more options.

What's Hot?

  • Vada Pav - Just go for it :)
  • The authentic kolhapuri flavor in all of its dishes

What's Not?

  • The desserts are limited & you may as well give it a miss.

Location: Suryawanshi, Near Vydehi Bus Stand, Whitefield

Needless to say, I loved this place & going back again .. soon .. very soon !

A dhaba feel @ Kapoor's Cafe

My love for parathas made me discover this punjabi joint in Whitefield.
This is a tiny place in the Gurukul Sports academy campus. With its extremely simple, cozy ambience & friendly staff, it definitely gives you an authentic dhaba experience. We were welcomed with a quirky punjabi line "Tussi aa gaye...Ab Tak Kahan thay?" that instantly brought a smile on my face :)

What We Ordered:
  • Paneer Pakoras
  • Parathas (Aloo, Mixed, Paneer) with a spoonful (scoop) of butter on top !!!
  • Chole Batura (Dilli Style)
  • Lassi, Chaas
My Experience:
Firstly,  there was nothing exceptional about the parathas. It was a single piece served but big enough that you wouldn't want to order for more! The butter on top & the extra white makhan that we ordered made me feel like a stuffed turkey & how!!! The lassi and chaas were served in the traditional kulhad style & was good. The Chole batura was strangely crispy & we did mention this to the manager.

This time I surprised myself by saying a big NO for desserts!

What's Hot?
I'll give this a miss.

What's Not?
Parathas could have definitely been better.

Location: Gurukul Sports campus, Whitefield

The menu looked quite elaborate & may be I would want to try the rotis and sabzis for a better experience next time!

Dimsums with Tea - That's Yauatcha!

Firstly, this "oriental" fine dining located on the 5th floor of 1MG Mall, was on my wish list for quite sometime. Each time I took a glimpse of this place, i was instantly drawn to it, but gave it a miss. Last week, we finally decided on visiting this place for an authentic dimsum experience!

To begin with, the decor is very unique and elegant & the translucent glass facade, the dim lit theme - all impressive.

We were greeted quite warmly & almost immediately asked for our choice. Vegetarian it is! A separate menu for vegetarians arrived- even better :-)

What We Ordered:

  • Lychee Martini
  • Green Apple Martini
  • Veg Shangai Dumpling
  • Beetroot & Celery Dumpling
  • Schezwan Tofu Claypot
  • Veg Friend Rice with Sweetcorn
  • Raspberry Delice

My Experience:

Being a complete Martini lover, i thought the Martinis at Yauatcha is perhaps one of the best I have tasted. The flavour was just right - not too light, not too strong; just right. A big thumbs up for the Martini experience.

About the food; what was impressive is the quality, quantity & the impeccable presentation, well crafted to perfection. The stuffed dumplings were great & had to be so owing to their signature dish. The tofu and the rice combination worked quite well.

As always, my favourite part is satisfying my sweet tooth:)
As recommended, we tried the Raspberry Delice. This is probably a must-try-must-have on your visit to Yauatcha. The sorbet, chocolate mousse wrapped in a raspberry layer was simply sinfully divine.

What's Hot?

The dumplings & Raspberry Delice for sure.

What's Not?

The closed seating set up was something I was definitely not comfortable with.

Location: 5th Floor, 1MG Mall

All in all, a refreshing change to the whole dimsum experience. Am surely going back to this place next time for the "tea" with dimsums.

Bon Appetit !

I am not a food critic but a food lover. I live to eat & not the other way round. A true blue bangalorean living up to the cosmopolitan culture & so I love all cuisines.
Being a food lover, I have experimented with different places, different tastes- from star hotels to road side eateries; from the most popular hangouts to the lesser known but even more amazing joints; from breakfast places-to brunches-to dine & wine; I love it all :)
Hence the birth of my blog.
Hope my posts introduces you to many more places in bangalore :)
Happy Eating :)
